Took a trip to Chicago
and Charlotte, NC this week. While in Chicago, I went to dinner with Som-Lok Leung from Moody’s KMV. We went to Nick’s Fishmarket, quite a swanky place, and I continued my search for the world’s best crab-cakes. Although the food at Nick’s ranged from really good to spectacular, I can report that, when it comes to crab-cakes, Nick’s doesn’t have them. In my book, the best crab-cakes can be had right here in Oakville. at the Rude Native . I also visited the Chicago Apple Store. It ought to be considered a form of torture for a Macintosh owner to visit a place like this, unless you’ve got at least $10K burning a hole in your pocket. Unfortunately, I don’t and had to leave empty handed. Disappointingly, the “genius” working at the “genius bar” on Monday evening wasn’t able to help me with the single question I asked: Can you provide instructions for setting up multiple users on my home network so that each user’s home directory resides on one computer? Actually, he did have an answer, but it involved buying the “Server” version of the operating system, which would cost muchos dollaros. (See the preceding paragraph). |

On Labour Day we spent a
great day at the Heiligenthal's new cottage in Bayfield.
Weather was a bit blustery, but that didn't stop the kids
from taking advantage of the last day at the beach this year.
I took a few
pictures. Later, on Thanksgiving, we spent the weekend in Ottawa. Except for passing through a couple of times, I haven't been to Ottawa since our Grade 8 school trip. We did all the usual touristy things (river cruise, tour of Parliament, visit Museum of Civilization). It's mostly all good. The only disappointment was the Museum of Civilization. The building is beautiful, and the exhibits are very well presented, but when you step back, it's really just a fairly straitforward lesson in the history of Canada. Great place to take a school tour, but not that engaging for the rest of us. Once again, I took a few pictures. |

The weather on our
camping trip was
a bit of a bust for the first few days. But then things
cleared up and we got out on the lake. Here's Colin waiting
for a big one.... |

Recognize this young
feller. Colin and I climbed the ridge in
Haliburton on a short layover when we went to pick Andrew up
from Kandalore.
