Bill Brannan
On 13 August 2024 at Joseph Brant hospital in Burlington Ontario, Bill Brannan passed peacefully from complications arising from a fall. He was 90 years old.
Bill was born on 15 July 1934 in Renton, Scotland to Margaret Brannan. Orphaned as a boy, he was raised by a close-knit group of Scottish aunts, uncles and grandparents. In 1958, while completing his national service with the Royal Air Force, he married Amy Clark and they were together until her death in 2022.
After completing military service, Bill worked in technical positions at the British Admiralty in Scotland, earning several promotions at the Royal Naval Torpedo Factory. In 1966, Amy and Bill decided to make a new home for their young family and emigrated to Canada.
Bill always worked on improving himself, first through technical courses and later in management, which led to his career at ITT Canada, where he worked on introducing automated mail handling to Canada Post, and Garrett Manufacturing, where he was involved in upgrading the instrument landing systems at Canadian airports. Before retiring, Bill reinvented himself as a personal debt counsellor with Paddon & Yorke in the Oakville area.
In recent times, Bill developed a very close personal relationship with Patricia Hutchison. During their time together they embarked on a path of learning about human nature, religion, and love.
Bill is preceded in death by his dear wife, Amy. He is survived by sons Stuart (Heidi Van Willegen) and Craig (Cindy), grandsons Andrew and Colin, his niece Carol Barrie, and his special friend Patricia Hutchison.
The cremated remains of Amy and Bill will be returned to Scotland, where it all began.
