This year’s summer vacation was a trip to Colombia, starting with Bogotá. The whole thing was organized by the folks at Amakuna, who did a bang up job of tailoring the experience to our interests. It started with visits to several restaurants to sample innovative Colombian dishes, and continued with outings to various neighbourhoods, museums and art galleries. Our local guide, Fernando, was extremely knowledgeable about everything, and very accommodating when HVW had a slight issue with the altitude. His tour of the Museo del Oro felt more like a grad seminar, and one for which I hadn’t done the pre-reading.

Artistry
One day was dedicated to Bogotá’s art scene. We made several stops, including the workshops of two very talented artists: a husband/wife collaboration known as J & L Constructores, and Miler Lagos. Even though we emphatically aren’t experts, we had great discussions with both of them. Miler impressed us with his story of visiting bush-pilot Max Ward1, and venturing much farther into Canada’s North than we have ever done.

Looks interesting. Peggy’s been to Columbia, but I never have. Looked up Amakuna. Are you with a group or just the two of you?
It was just the two of us, which allowed us to have closer personal connections than would have been possible, or at least much more difficult, with a group.
