I know, I know.... two trips to Whistler in one year is so indulgent. So indulge me. Andrew and Isabella came in from the UK. I took a couple of lessons to refresh my skills (only took a pic on one day). Andrew and I had a great time in some pretty extreme weather, and [...]
Just back from a week at Whistler with Mssrs. Allt and Lloyd-Davies. Much fun was had, including the discovery of an ice cave on Blackcomb Glacier that has never been accessible on any of my previous trips.
Last weekend, I joined up with Phil, Joff and Olga for a couple days of skiing on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence. They get a ton of snow, and the nearby town of Baie St. Paul is charming. The skiing was pretty good too. While we were in La Belle Province, [...]
Here's a couple of pictures from Vancouver, where we spent one night before heading to Whistler. Close as we can tell, the totem is an eagle/wolf eating a small human. We met Heidi's brother, Dan, in Whistler. It was very, very cold (1). We had lots of blue skies, but not a single flake of [...]
We went to Jasper National Park for the MLK long weekend, to meet up with our friends Bogie and Angela from Edmonton. Sorry, no pictures of anyone but me, and the mountain tour volunteer, Ruth. But, trust me, we had a great time.
Surprise. We spent another fab week in Whistler. Lots of snow and great company. AWB and CSB even reverted to skiing for a couple of days, after 15-or-so years on snowboards.
Took a couple of days to go skiing at Tremblant. Day 1 was warm and soaking wet. Day 2 was brutally cold. We had a great time. We decided the conditions were sufficiently harsh that Peter earned his honorary Canadian badge on his first attempt.
In Whistler with AWB and CSB (and HVW, not shown). Beautiful day yesterday, but we are waiting for fresh snow later this week.
We spent last week in Whistler (again), and it was spectacular. Colin and I skied 30,000 vertical metres over 4 days, much of it in fresh powder. Here's a very short movie, using clips from Colin's iPhone. Thanks Colin. Whistler 2016 from Stuart Brannan on Vimeo.
Home of Roxanne. But also home of the funky Whitewater Ski Resort. Had a great 2 days exploring the mountain with Phil and Joff, but need more time to work through the double-black terrain. Tomorrow we're off to Rossland BC, to get a feel for Red Mountain.
I predict that "Boyhood" will win best Picture at the Oscars tonight, and this 2 minute homemade video of Colin and I, will not. Whistler 2015 from Stuart Brannan on Vimeo.
Last year at this time it would not stop snowing: Things are a leetle bit deeferent, this year. The bottom half of the mountain is bare, and the snow on top has thawed and refrozen into an icy mess several times over. Finding skiable areas is a huge challenge. Colin and I went out for [...]
For the first time in 30 years, I got together with Joff Cowan and Councillor Phil Allt. We took a few days to go skiing in Vermont: Sugarbush for 2 days and one at Mad River Glen ("Ski it if you can" - love that tag line). Here's a short video of Joff and Phil. [...]
I was waiting in the line up at the Blackcomb beer and wine store, just like I always do. The cashier was telling the customer in front of me about a local beer ("Blue Pig", I think). When it came time for me to pay for my bottle of Painted Rock, he says "This isn't [...]
Hoo ha! PS : my email is Stuart |at| Brannan.org in case anyone wants to swap something.
After Victoria, we went to Whistler, where I bagged 3 days of spring skiing. I don't have a single photo to show for it; decided to experiment with Andrew's Go Pro camera and it didn't work out so well. Here's the only video that is worth a look (don't worry, its not even 30 seconds [...]
There is a photo gallery of pictures from our trip to Jackson Hole in Wyoming a little farther down. But here is a quick video with some shots of Colin and I skiing/boarding. Colours are wonky in places as the sensor on my cheapo waterproof camera appears to be defunct. Jackson Hole from Stuart Brannan [...]
