Goin’ up the country

Goin’ up the country

This weekend we reconnected with our friends Olga and Joff at their home in Subarulandia aka the United State of Bernie.  Since it was a fairly long drive on Saturday morning, Joff took us the explore Shelburne Farm in the afternoon, just south of Burlington. I think we picked the best weekend for fall colours. [...]

We Zijn Hier

We Zijn Hier

We travelled from Copenhagen to Goes NL last Friday, and met up with Colin and Dan. Then on Saturday, [nearly] all the VW cousins showed up.  We walked through Kepelle to Het Fruitteeltmuseum and even held our own Dutch auction.  Then a photo op with glasses from Newark, and dinner back in Goes. When we regained [...]

Vi er her

Vi er her

Today's diary entry: "A long boring train ride, but we arrived in Copenhagen.  It's pride week; that's not boring." H1, if you are reading:  Here's H2 after unexpectedly discovering Københavns Biblioteker.  We will be going back, I'm sure.   We wandered past the grounds of Christiansborg Slot but didn't go in.  We may go back, we'll see.  Scandi-palaces [...]

HERS

HERS

Walking to dinner last night we saw these folks hanging from wires in a rehearsal for the Stockholms Kulturfestival in one of the harbours.  Apparently the theme for the festival this year is Kanada.  Then, dinner in the cellars of Gamla stan, and a walk home in the rain. Its a new dawn, its a new day, and the sun [...]

Just back: Cape May

Just back: Cape May

So we went to Cape May, at the southernmost tip of the Jersey Shore, for the weekend.  We took the Garden State Parkway to Exit 0; surprisingly for a summer weekend, it wasn't jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive.  As far as we could tell, we were the only ones. We [...]

Wet and cold

Wet and cold

Took a couple of days to go skiing at Tremblant.  Day 1 was warm and soaking wet.  Day 2 was brutally cold.  We had a great time. We decided the conditions were sufficiently harsh that Peter earned his honorary Canadian badge on his first attempt.

I wish it would rain

I wish it would rain

It's still raining in Ljubljana.  We did a city walking tour this morning (meh) then kept dry (sort of) by visiting the national library, the city museum and the modern art museum.  So I bagged three more miniaturized lobby photos for my collection. Now it's time to gripe about how far behind US credit cards [...]

Betchya didn’t know

Betchya didn’t know

Betchya didn't know that we got to the Piltvice lakes early this morning to beat the crowds. Thanks be to .... that we did. The trails were peaceful for our 4 hour trip around the lakes. But on our return to the entrance it was chaos! Betchya didn't know that Slovenia won the Eurobasket competition, [...]

The calm after the storm

The calm after the storm

After the weather cleared, we spent more time in Rab's old town and the nearby Komrcar Park.  Visited the spot where a nun shared peaches with the bell tower attendant, and me, yesterday evening.   In the pm, we took a very unpleasant walk to a nearby Franciscan monastery, only to discover that the opening hours [...]

A complaints procedure can be found at the bar

A complaints procedure can be found at the bar

We left Rovinj this morning and took a break at the Opatija Riviera. It was deserted. There must be some Brussels regulation, as we keep noticing that restaurants include a notice about "complaint procedures" at the bottom of their menus. Later, we boarded the ferry to Rab, where we came across some old-style coaches which [...]
