Apparently, we picked the worst time to visit the Vatican, so had to jostle through the galleries and the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s basilica with literally thousands of others. So it goes. I took one picture of a roped off area that seemed quite pleasant. HVW says I should have photographed the crowds.
Next day we wandered through the Forum, the (much less crowded but almost as impressive as St. Peter’s) Basilica di San Giovanni, and other randomly selected churches.

I’ve had my fill of museums and churches for a while so we are coming home.

all these historically and architecturally magnificent
sights without the challenge and discomfort of line ups
